Man in his 40s killed after cyclist hit by HGV

A man has been arrested after a cyclist died in a horror crash involving a HGV in Salford. Police, paramedics and fire crews were called to Cromwell Road on Thursday afternoon.

Greater Manchester Police said that a cyclist, a man in his 40s, has since died. Officers arrested a 39-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

The force said he has been released on bail while its investigation continues. Police have appealed for anyone with information or video footage to come forward. "From initial enquiries, we believe that a HGV was travelling northeast on A576 Cromwell Road in Salford towards the junction with Langley Road South and the victim, a cyclist, was travelling in the same direction behind the HGV.

As the vehicle approached the junction of Cromwell Road and Langley Road South the HGV turns left onto Langley Road South and at the same time the cyclist continued to travel straight on and a collision occurred. "Emergency services attended and sadly the cyclist, a man in his 40s, passed away as a result of the injuries he sustained.
