Man dies after falling on mountain during Lake District running challenge

A man has tragically died after slipping and falling during a fell running challenge in the Lake District. Emergency services, including mountain rescue teams from Cockermouth and Wasdale, rushed to Ennerdale in the west of the Lake District after the runner fell from a ridge as he made his way down from Pillar mountain to Kirk Fell.

The tragic incident happened at around 11pm on Tuesday (August 6), however the details were only released yesterday (August 11).

Cockermouth Mountain Rescue team (CMRT) said they were contacted by a runner to say their friend had slipped and fallen during an attempt at the Bob Graham Round, LancsLive reports. Twenty members of the team and six from Wasdale Mountain Rescue were tasked with reaching the "remote location". In a statement, CMRT said: "On Tuesday 6th August, the police were contacted by a runner at around 11pm to say their friend had slipped and fallen during an attempt at the Bob Graham Round.
