Nathan Ake has eased concerns over his injury situation, with the defender poised to sign a new contract at Man City. The Dutch defender limped out of City's 2-1 over Bayern Munich in midweek and remains a doubt ahead of their final pre-season fixture against Atletico Madrid this weekend.
Ake, 28, kept his place in defence for the second summer friendly in Tokyo but was substituted in the first half after going down off the ball and holding the bottom of his leg.
Pep Guardiola stated after the match that his substitution was purely precautionary ahead of the new season, and now the centre-back has moved to ease those concerns himself. I’ll be ok next week, for sure.” Ake's comments suggest he could be recalled when City face Arsenal in the Community Shield a week on Sunday, though it seems unlikely he'll be risked in the final friendly against Atletico.
