A bloke who scooped nearly £25,000 on a football bet has caused a stir with his reaction to the win. He anonymously revealed his good fortune in a post to the @fesshole account on Twitter, now known as X, where users confess their secrets. However, his admission backfired as he faced criticism for not being truthful about the full amount to his wife.

He wrote: "Won around £24,800 on a footy bet a few months back, told my wife it was actually a half share of just over £12,000 with a pal - my share amounting to £6,200. "OK she said, you can have the £3,200 and I'll have the £3,000 to go shopping with.

Result."Instead of receiving praise, the unnamed man was met with a slew of responses ridiculing him and condemning his choice.

One person commented: "You could have just tweeted 'I lied to my wife'."While another suggested he should have kept the entire windfall under wraps, remarking if he "didn't tell her you'd of had an extra £3,000", the majority expressed concern over his deceit, with one user cautioning that he was "walking on thin ice".
