Livingston vice-captain Sean Kelly says pre-season felt like a waste because he just had to do it all over again after picking up an injury just one game into the campaign. The 30-year-old was a key part of the side last term during his second season at the club and made a scoring debut this term in the Viaplay Cup clash at Brechin City. However, a knee injury kept him on the sidelines for two months before he made his return in last week’s Viaplay Cup quarter-final 4-0 loss to Rangers. He said: “In some ways it felt like pre-season was a waste of time.

We get five or six weeks off and then you come back in and do your work. But I have had another eight to 10 weeks off my feet so I built fitness which I then lost."I had a torn cartilage in my knee and some bone bruising and gradually it got worse.

There wasn’t a specific incident where I felt it. I played against Brechin in our first Viaplay Cup game. It’s been like a double blow because I essentially had to do another pre-season and even that doesn’t prepare you for playing at Ibrox.”He added: “Hopefully it is all behind me now.

I have been through this before where you think something is sorted and it isn’t.“Hopefully it is just a case of fitness now.
