IDLES have shared two new recordings as part of their first Spotify Singles release, including a cover of ‘Mood Swings’ by Little Simz. The Bristol rock band have reworked the track to feature a more lo-fi soundscape, embracing the dance music references that influenced their latest album ‘TANGK’.

Their electronic-driven take on ‘Mood Swings’ also incorporates elements of Peaches’ ‘Fuck The Pain Away’ and The Chemical Brothers’ ‘Elektrobank’.‘Mood Swings’ comes from Little Simz’ EP ‘Drop 7’, released February this year.

Produced by Jakwob (Nia Archives, Shygirl), the original version was drenched in 808s and club-inspired beats, alongside an interpolation of Solange’s ‘Binz’ that’s absent in IDLES interpretation. As part of the release they also shared a new recording of ‘Roy’, a track from ‘TANGK’.

Released in February, the album gained acclaim for its embrace of dance and open-hearted lyricism. In a four-star review of the album, NME‘S Andrew Trendell wrote: “‘TANGK’ is an adventure into pastures new. [Frontman Joe] Talbot is keen to put arm’s length at the material that exorcises his past traumas and battles with addiction and general frustration at the modern malaise.
