The FIFA Women's World Cup in Australia could be England's to lose after Tuesday's glittering display against the Chinese. Unfolding at Hindmarsh Stadium, the 16,500-capacity home of Adelaide United, manager Sarina Wiegman's superstars made a lightning-quick start to the match; Alessia Russo squeezing in the opener after just four minutes of play.
18 minutes later came fellow striker Lauren Hemp's neat finish following a sublime throughball from Lauren James. Brother of Chelsea FC talent Reece James, Lauren, 21, herself would soon make it onto the scoresheet too, curling in her team's third goal in 41 minutes from outside the box.
It wasn't to be a complete washout, though, as China's Wang Shuang made sure her to write her name in World Cup history books by scoring a penalty just before the hour mark.
Despite neutrals fancying a Chinese onslaught to keep this game competitive, Lauren's second goal - a volley from the football Gods - put any questions to bed less than 10 minutes later, making it 4-1 to England.
