Lionel Richie is apologizing. Over the weekend, the 74-year-old musician cancelled a concert at Madison Square Garden an hour after it was supposed to actually start, angering fans in the process.

Now, Lionel is speaking out and sending his apologizes to everyone in attendance. Keep reading to find out more… The apology came during the rescheduled concert on Monday night (August 14), where he addressed what the issue was. “I had two ‘no’s to come at the same time,” Lionel told the crowd. “And when those two decided it’s a no — when God says no and when the pilot says no, the answer…I tried to bribe the pilot.” He continued, “And the pilot said, ‘I do want to see my wife tomorrow.’ So tonight we are going to make up for that.

I apologize for that a thousand times.” Watch the apology here. At the time, Lionel revealed that the concert had to be cancelled due to weather conditions. “Due to severe weather and being unable to land in the NY and surrounding areas, I’m unable to make it to the show tonight,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “I’m so bummed.

We are rescheduling the show to Monday Aug 14. Can’t wait to perform for you all. Tickets for tonight’s show are valid for the show on Monday.” Check out the set list for Lionel‘s tour!
