Keir Starmer has wound up the Tories by having a photo of Margaret Thatcher removed from Downing Street, according to reports.The Herald reported that Starmer's biographer said the Prime Minister found the painting of the former Tory leader "unsettling".The move has clearly riled up the Conservatives, with all three Scottish leadership candidates not happy about it.Thatcher was British Prime Minister between 1979 and 1990.
Her time in office saw the shutting down of many industries with thousands of Scots left unemployed because of her policies.Ex-Labour PM Gordon Brown commissioned the picture of Thatcher when she visited him in 2007 soon after he took office.It was painted by royal artists Richard Stone and was paid for by a £100,000 anonymous donation.It was hung in the former No10 study which was known as the Thatcher Room.Speaking at an event organised by Glasgow’s Aye Write book festival, Tom Baldwin said he was recently taken to the room by the Labour leader.He said Starmer described the study as a “place where we can go and have a quiet talk.”Baldwin said: “We sat there, and I go, ‘It’s a bit unsettling with her staring down as you like that, isn’t it’?” He said the Prime Minister replied: “Yeah.”Baldwin then asked if he would "get rid of it.”The writer said Starmer nodded, adding: “And he has.”Russell Findlay said: “Gordon Brown commissioned this portrait after calling the first female Prime Minister ‘a conviction politician who saw the need for change’.“I agree with Gordon Brown’s reasonable position to treat his political opponents with decency and respect.“Keir Starmer seems to have a much more petty approach.”Murdo Fraser said: "It is disappointing to see a portrait of our first female Prime Minister being
