James Martin has quipped he might need to "pay someone a backhander" to bring his ideal ITV travel show to life, after butting heads with channel bosses about the next country to be featured.
The famous TV chef let slip that he was keen on a travel series set in Japan to delve into its food and culture.At 52 years old, the culinary star admitted Japan has been "on his list" for ages, yet commitments and the Covid crisis scuppered his plans to visit.
Having pitched the concept to network bigwigs, he ended up filming in Spain instead for 'James Martin's Spanish Adventure'.The 'Saturday Morning' presenter, who's already explored France, The Highlands, and the US in previous ITV escapades, shared on 'The Travel Diaries' podcast with Holly Rubenstein last year, his ongoing wish to venture to Japan."I'd love to go to Japan, it's on my list.
I've been close, been close with work, then Covid hit, and I couldn't make the gig and I keep saying to ITV that a travelogue thing to Japan would be amazing, and they said, 'we'll do Spain again'... 'alright, okay'," he recounted with a sigh.
