Ian McCall has been sacked from Partick Thistle following a Scottish Cup exit to Rangers. The Scottish Championship side ran the Light Blues all the way at Ibrox before James Sands goal six minutes from time ensured Rangers progression to the quarter-finals.

McCall had been manager at Firhill since 2019 after leaving Ayr United, and there were little question marks about his future with the Jags sitting juts one point off a play-off spot in their division.

However on Sunday evening a club statement confirmed his exit. It read: "Partick Thistle FC have this evening relieved Ian McCall, Alan Archibald and Neil Scally, of their duties in relation to the first team with immediate effect.

The club would like to place on record it’s sincere appreciation to all three for their contributions to Partick Thistle over many years."Under 18 coach Kris Doolan will take on the role of First Team Manager on an interim basis, and will be assisted in this regard by Academy Director Paul McDonald."At this crucial juncture of the season, we ask all members of the Partick Thistle family, to get behind Kris and the team as we strive for promotion to the Scottish Premiership. No further comment will be made this evening."Follow Record Sport on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for all of the up-to-the minute breaking news, video and audio on the SPFL, the Scotland national team and beyond.
