But the likes of adidas and Nike will probably never fall out of favour with fans, most of whom are willing to pay that bit extra for a trusted brand that's always in fashion.
Thankfully there are some stores where you can pick things up much cheaper than the high street and online - one of them being Stockport's adidas outlet store.
With a son desperate for some Predator football boots we headed to the store at Pear New Mill to see what it had in stock. But even I was surprised by the saving on them compared to what you'd spend elsewhere. The kind we got - Pedator Edge.1 SG - are £128.99 at Sports Direct, but the outlet had them for £90.
