They're a familiar Christmas sight - the snaking queues at butchers across Greater Manchester as families make their final festive preparations.

People are queuing 'from dawn until dusk' at shops across the region today (December 23) to make sure they get the best cuts of meat for Christmas.

Big queues were spotted as early as 7.30am in Ramsbottom. In Timperley, the queue snaked around the corner of Thornley Lane as people waited patiently to pick up their Christmas orders from Treadgold's.

The family business is a favourite among locals - who say their offerings are a million miles from the supermarkets'.
