A petition has been launched and the president of Perth City Swim Club has accused Perth and Kinross Council of selling the public short with a "devastating scaling-back" of sports provision.On Monday councillors will be asked to approve plans for Perth's three main leisure facilities to be replaced by one single building which would no longer include a leisure pool, ice rink or indoor bowling.The report - going before councillors - lists swimming as the most popular leisure activity yet has recommended pulling the plug on leisure pool plans.The findings and subsequent recommendations of the Transformation Review of leisure assets owned or funded by PKC will go before councillors on Monday, January 22.
The review listed swimming as the most popular activity at the three venues with 314,246 swimming sessions and 80,297 swimming lessons in 2022/23.
Gym usage was next highest at 117,800.Ten years ago in 2014 a project was launched to create a "one-stop 21st century flagship facility" called PH20.
The plans included a leisure pool, additional training pool provision, state-of-the-art gym and fitness studios, an ice rink with Olympic-standard ice to hone curling skills, health suite and an external adventure play zone.
