A bird flu death has been recorded in China with a woman becoming the first person ever to die from the H3N8 strain. After falling ill in February, the 56-year-old suffered severe pneumonia last month and tragically passed away on March 16.
The woman, from China's Guangdong province, was just the third person to be officially diagnosed with the strain after H3N8 was identified in people for the first time in Russia in February 2021.Despite the H3H8 strain being one of the most common strain in birds, it is important to note that the likelihood of the disease spreading to humans is low.
The UK are set to lift mandatory housing measures for poultry and captive birds on April 18 following the latest risk assessment.
