The England women’s squad reportedly wanted £100,000 for World Cup glory Down Under in a bonus row that rocked their preparations for the final against Spain in Sydney.
Lionesses manager Sarina Wiegman’s triumphant players banked £55,000 from The FA for winning the Euros last summer and it has now been claimed they wanted almost double that for taking on the world.
The Daily Mail say talks will resume after the final but that players are “believes to be considering scaling back commercial work they do (currently for free) for the FA if the matter is not resolved satisfactorily.” Gareth Southgate’s men would have picked up an eye-watering half a million pounds each had they been successful in the men’s version of the FIFA tournament in Qatar last winter, but fell to France in the quarter finals.
When asked about the situation ahed of the final, FA CEO Mark Bullingham said: “They had a very strong case before the World Cup and a very strong case after, but the reality is there’s a discussion to be had.” England captain Millie Bright and her team-mates said in a statement last month: “We are disappointed that a resolution has still not been achieved.
