The discovery of a Halloween prop - amid a police murder investigation into human remains found in Salford - sparked an alert at a nearby rugby club.
The prop, showing a hand, was found by boys warming up before a game at Broughton Cricket and Rugby Club on Saturday morning, a club official told the Manchester Evening News. "I saw it and I thought it looked real," said club steward Gordon McEwan.
Police investigating the discovery by a member of the public of a man's lower body, wrapped in layers of cellophane, on nearby Radford Street in Kersal on Thursday were called to the rugby club, and quickly confirmed the item was actually a Halloween prop. Mr McEwan, 54, the club steward who lives on the grounds, told the M.E.N: "It did look genuine. We had 20 police and CSI down here and they cordoned it off.
