Selena Kuznikov Independent film distributor Gravitas Ventures has acquired the U.S. and Canadian rights to Peter Cannon’s psychological thriller “Exposure.” The film, written by Cannon, stars Douglas Smith and Margo Harshman and will be released on digital and cable on demand July 9.
The thriller follows Tanner (Smith), who was kidnapped, tortured and poisoned by an unknown assailant some years ago. After being inexplicably let go, he was left obsessed with the idea that his kidnapper was still out to get him.
His compulsive checking to confirm that his house is secure and his food is safe to eat slowly erodes his relationship with his wife, Nicole (Harshman).
When Nicole hears that the assailant was released from prison earlier than expected, Tanner’s obsession spirals out of control. “I’ve dealt with obsessive compulsive disorder for over a decade,” Cannon said in a statement. “Over the years the examples of OCD I’ve seen have downplayed the relentless and nightmarish elements of it in favor of something tonally lighter, or even ‘quirky.’ Personally, I wanted to show OCD in the way that many experience it – a siege on the mind.” The film is executive produced by Douglas Smith and produced by Jordan Michaud-Scorza and Tanner Sawitz of Leviathan Filmworks.
