Good Morning Britain star Richard Gaisford has revealed that he was rushed to hospital after needing "emergency surgery".The ITV show's chief correspondent took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to tell fans that he had received "first class" treatment at a Portsmouth NHS hospital after being admitted on Sunday. "Not quite the Sunday I'd planned," Richard, 51, wrote. "Many thanks to the incredible team @PHU_NHS for amazing care and a spot of emergency surgery.

NHS at its very best. I realise there are untold pressures at the moment, but the service I received was first class and hugely appreciated." Richard's ITV colleagues wished him well, with GMB weather presenter Laura Tobin replying: "Take care x." Meanwhile, ITV News presenter Sally Biddulph wrote, "Get well soon Richard x." Fans also reacted to the news, with one writing: "OMG what happened @richardgaisford?

Hope you're feeling better soon.Take care." Another wrote, "Get well soon! But much appreciated to hear your kind words while you're unwell, means a lot for the NHS troops.Take care." The journalist has been a correspondent on the ITV show since it was GMTV in 2000.

He has stayed in the role and stood-in as a presenter at times as it became Daybreak in 2010 and eventually Good Morning Britain in 2014.
