A teenage student has told how she's been slapped with an 'insane' fine she says is equivalent to a week's worth of rent over a £3 train ticket mishap.

Hannah King, 19, was travelling with Northern Rail from Salford - where she had been visiting her friend - to Manchester Piccadilly when her mobile phone that her e-ticket was on ran out of charge.

Hannah's friend, who has not been named, bought her a new ticket but accidentally forgot to remove her railcard from the purchase. Hannah said she was stopped by Northern rail staff, who took her details and advised her a letter would be sent out in the post for failing to have a railcard.
