A gambling addict who stole more than seven figures from her employer will be forced to sell her home, car and designer goods to pay back what she took.

Mum Karen Brailsford took the cash from a Derbyshire company she worked for over a number of years.A hearing at Derby Crown Court found the 53-year-old benefited from around £1,653,672 in cash from her firm which included falsifying invoices to fund her addiction.

At the height of it, she took £300,000 from the company in one year, reports DerbyshireLive.Financial investigators found that Brailsford has around £130,314.59 to her name which is said to be coming from the sale of the items she currently owns.

A judge called the process of investigation “a lot of hard work from a number of different parties," as she was jailed for four years.Judge Shaun Smith KC told the defendant, who appeared over a video-link from prison: “Unless someone finds you have some more money like in another country this is the end of the process and you will have to sell those items to fund it.”She was caught via the Proceeds of Crime Act (or POCA) which allows police to apply for cash to be seized from those who have made their money from 'ill-gotten gains'.
