Father and son complete 96-mile West Highland Way challenge for Crosshouse Community Football Club
dailyrecord.co.ukA dad and his nine-year-old lad have trekked the 96-mile West Highland Way to raise money for a great sporting cause.Colin Paton and his son Ruaridh, nine, completed the West Highland Way walk in six days to boost the coffers of Crosshouse Community Football Club.Colin, 38, is a keen walker and has always thought about completing a famous route from the town of Milngavie, just north of Glasgow, to Fort William in the Highlands.He said: “Walking the West Highland Way challenge has been a lifetime ambition for me. "Ruaridh also loves walking, he especially loves the scenery and wildlife.
The West Highland Way was a great opportunity to have some quality father and son time in the brilliant surroundings that the West Highland Way offers.“There was a day which we thought was 19 miles over the most difficult section, Rowardennan to Crianlarich, that ended up being 23 miles.
Ruaridh showed great mental and physical strength to complete this day.“We have only climbed Munros and done some day walks but nothing on this scale before.”Ruaridh is amongst the youngest to complete the route within six days.
He found some days challenging but was determined to complete the journey to raise funds for his football team Crosshouse Community Football Club 2013s.Colin and Ruaridh, of Kilmarnock, began their journey on April 10 and completed it on April 15.
