England legend died after being hit by train and was identified by fingerprints, inquest hears
ok.co.ukFormer England cricket star Graham Thorpe died after being struck by a train and had to be indentified by fingerprints, an inquest has heard.
At the opening of an inquest into Graham's death, coroner Simon Wickens explained the former cricketer died from “traumatic injuries” after he was hit by a train in Surrey on Sunday 4 August.The coroner added Graham suffered “multiple injuries” and the British Transport Police had identified Graham by his fingerprints following his death.
A statement from British Transport Police, released on Monday 5 August, read: “Officers were called to Esher railway station at 8.26am on 4 August to reports of a casualty on the tracks. “Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.The incident is not being treated as suspicious.” Graham passed away at the age of 55 leaving behind his wife, Amanda, and his four children, Henry, Amelia, Kitty and Emma.
Graham was considered one of the finest ever batters having amassed a total of 6,744 runs and 16 centuries across 100 Test matches for England, while also notching up 21,000 runs during a 17-year county career.
