Hundreds of England fans have missed kick-off in their Euro 2024 qualifier with Italy after being bused to the stadium in the wrong direction.

Supporters were urged to get on public transport in order to prevent fan trouble in Naples ahead of the game, however according to reports the buses didn't head towards the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium instead they set off in the opposite direction.

Kick-off was not delayed meaning many missed the start of the game. Gareth Southgate's side begin their campaign in Naples tonight before playing Ukraine at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.

It's believed around 2,500 England fans have made the trip to Italy for the first game in the qualifiers. TalkSport journalist took to social media to explain the situation: "Been speaking to many England fans arriving at the game (and those still not here) who say it’s been farcical trying to get here - have friends who’ve been on a bus for 90 mins (it’s a 25 min journey) - the bus went in the opposite direction to the stadium."They’re not likely to make KO - crammed in with standing room only."Follow Record Sport on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for all of the up-to-the minute breaking news, video and audio on the SPFL, the Scotland national team and beyond. You can also follow our dedicated Rangers and Celtic podcast pages and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season.
