Eamonn Holmes was 'forced' to sell his beloved home in Belfast after losing two appeals against HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).The 64 year old TV alum shared in a yet-to-be-aired interview that tax officials had ruled that he was a staff member when working for ITV.
He insists that he was a freelancer and never received any sick pay, holiday pay, or shares in companies, however, HMRC ruled that he needed to pay ten years of backdated national insurance and tax payments. This led to Eamonn being faced with a reported bill of £250,000, leaving him with no choice but to sell his property in the Belmont area of Belfast.
Eamonn spoke to his former UTV (the ITV region covering Northern Ireland) co-star, Gerry Kelly, with the Express reporting that he said: "I had a house here until six weeks ago when I was forced to sell it by the Inland Revenue (HMRC). "It’s something I’m very bitter about...
because people think you earn lots of money and therefore you have to pay. It’s like they have taken away everything I ever worked for. “People think it’s only the Eamonn Holmeses of this world that they’re after.
