The DVLA has recently reminded drivers who have had their licence for nearly 10 years that they should renew it before it expires.

For those who passed their test before 2014, it could be almost time to apply for a renewal, and failing to follow the DVLA's rules could result in a hefty fine.

Drivers under the age of 70 must renew their photocards every 10 years, and you should receive a reminder before your current licence is due to expire.

Posting on Twitter, the DVLA issued a reminder saying: "You must renew your driving licence every 10 years. Renew online today – it's easy, quick and secure at: http://gov.uk/renewdrivinglicence… Your licence should arrive within a week if you apply online."It costs £14 to renew your drivers' licence online, and you can renew your provisional in this way as well.
