Some homeowners in Dumfries and Galloway are facing a potential council tax hike of 22.5 per cent. Councillors on the finance committee will on Tuesday consider proposals for increasing charges for properties in the highest bands E to H.

They are being asked for their views on a joint report from the Scottish Government and COSLA named “Consultation on a Fairer Council Tax”.

The paper suggests council tax bills could rise by 7.5 per cent for band E properties, 12.5 per cent for F, 17.5 per cent for G and a whopping 22.5 per for band H.

In Dumfries and Galloway that would see bills for band E properties rise by £131 to £1,885. For those in band H the council tax would increase by £735 to £4,006 a year.
