Greater Manchester courts close as security staff strike over 'being paid peanuts'

Court security staff are on picket lines this morning for the first of a four-day strike over pay. Members of the Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union employed by OCS, which provides security services to courts in England and Wales, are taking industrial action today (September 22).

It follows a pay offer described as 'insulting' by PCS, with the union stating the offer represents '38p above the National Living Wage', and members are preparing to return to picket lines next Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Many courts across the country are closed due to the industrial action, including eight in Greater Manchester. Some cases have been moved from closed court buildings to other ones which are able to open, while others are being dealt with remotely.
