A disabled woman has spoken of her pride at being that last living resident on an abandoned street. Gail Roberts, 64, has been locked in a dispute with National Highways over the sale of her home on the Queensway in Derby for a number of years. The service road is destined to disappear if a £250million upgrade on the A38 goes ahead, but Mrs Roberts is refusing to budge.

It has become a ghost street after other residents began accepting offers for their properties from National Highways, who were under a compulsory purchase order.

Gail loves her home and has yet to reach an agreement with the government-owned motorway agency - over 10 years after the revamp works were first proposed, Derbyshire Live reports.

She said: "I feel battered, bruised and drained by the whole experience. But I'm quite proud to be the last one standing. I love this house.
