Del Amitri's leading man Justin Currie has revealed he has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. The Scots star will appear on a Radio 4 programme next month, speaking candidly about the impact of his diagnosis, touching on the other 'man' growing inside him.
Del Amitri rose to fame in 1990 when the group's hit Nothing Ever Happens reached number 11 in the UK singles chart. It comes as the 59-year-old is due to embark on a huge European tour, which will see the legendary group take to the stage in Glasgow on March 29.
Justin has never spoken publicly about his Parkinson's diagnosis, but according to the BBC will open up 'at length' for the first time for the Radio 4 show, entitled 'Tremelo'.
During the broadcast, he reveals his singing has already been affected by the disease - which fellow Glaswegian superstar Billy Connolly was also diagnosed with in 2013."Sometimes I have to second guess how to phrase the rhythm of a line, which would normally come naturally," he said."The other thing that has been hard has been getting up to notes as well, because you just lose a bit of control over your muscles."Things I used to use my diaphragm to hit I now have to sort of do in my throat.
