CRUK Relay For Life Ayrshire committee fundraised over £7,000 for cancer research

The Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Relay For Life Ayrshire committee organised their first fundraiser at the Volunteer Rooms in Irvine for the Cancer Research Scotland Institute, formerly known as the Beatson.

The committee members were left "amazed" by the generosity after raising £7,422.20 and taking the overall total raised to well over £50,000.

A dinner and dance event took place on Saturday, June 22 where guests were able to enjoy a two-course meal and a live band called Love.

The guests also had an opportunity to take part in two raffles, including the supper raffle which had some excellent prizes such as seven nights in Tenerife, two deluxe garden sets, Tower Tourer BBQ, 55 inch TV, Nintendo Switch and more.The fundraiser night took place in order to support the main event - a 24-hour walking challenge, which will take place at Ayrshire Athletics Arena in Kilmarnock this summer, on August 31.Committee member Darren Thomson told Ayrshire Live: "It was a fantastic night and we had some excellent feedback, roughly 180 people attended. "On behalf of the committee, I would like to thank everyone who was involved in making the night as successful as it was and for their amazing generosity!"With the money raised from this event the CRUK Relay For Life Ayrshire team has now raised over £50,000!"We don't have an official target but the committee ourselves have set a personal target and would love to raise £100,000 for the Cancer Research Scotland Institute come the end of Relay For Life Ayrshire."The rest of the sum came from the teams that already signed up for Relay For Life Ayrshire, they have done fundraisers including bike rides, bake sales and bingo, as well as securing donations from friends and family to help and power
