A fire engine sent from Scotland to help save lives in Palestine has been impounded by Israeli authorities, it has been claimed.Furious Fire Brigades Union (FBU) officials say the appliance is being held at customs despite having clearance to enter the under-siege region. The engine, breathing apparatus and much needed kit has been transported 3500 miles from Dundee to the Israeli port of Ashdod where it arrived on Sunday, July 21.However despite all the necessary paperwork being in place, the FBU has accused Israeli officials of failing to release the firefighting equipment to Palestinian authorities.SNP MP Stephen Gethins is understood to have written to the Israeli ambassador over the issue and Foreign Secretary David Lammy has also been contacted.FBU official and former firefighter Jim Malone said: “The Israeli Government appears to be deliberately holding up the delivery of this vital humanitarian aid from Scotland.“By preventing the release of the fire appliance and kit they are putting yet more Palestinian lives at risk.“However on this they have form, we have seen them use these tactics before.“We are in touch, every day with our comrades in the Palestinian Municipality of Nablus who have forwarded us all the certification and communications with the Israelis, their frustrations at the delay are shared here in Scotland.“We are calling on MPs and MSPs to use their influence with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to put pressure on the government of Israel to end this unnecessary delay.”Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. You'll receive daily updates on breaking news as well as the top headlines across Scotland. No one will be able to see who is signed up and
