A worker at the botched bottle recycling scheme is being probed over company credit card purchases days before it went bust.

Debt collectors have been called in to claw back cash from an employee of Circularity Scotland, where boss David Harris was on £300,000 a year, to recover money from transactions made before the company folded.

Circularity Scotland was a private firm appointed by the government to run the DRS and handed a £9million taxpayer-funded loan from the Scottish National Investment Bank – most of which now can’t be repaid.SNP MSP Fergus Ewing said the details of the purchases and who made them should be made public due to the amount of taxpayers’ money invested in the firm.He said: “It is quite wrong to incur costs when a company is known to be on the verge of bankruptcy.“The public are the losers here, with around £8million of the £9million lent by the Scottish Investment bank likely to be lost.“News that some money was taken from the company to pay for expenses of an individual in the last few days before the appointment is serious and these should be recovered.“It is in the public interest that the name of the individual should be made released.“I shall write to the liquidators to seek clarification.”Insolvency experts Interpath Advisory said the employee who made the purchases had not responded to requests about the transactions and they’ve instructed a debt company to recover the cash.Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. You'll receive daily updates on breaking news as well as the top headlines across Scotland. No one will be able to see who is signed up and no one can send messages except the Daily Record team. All you have to do is click here if
