John McGlynn knows he can win the PFA Manager of the Year Award – because the Falkirk boss has done it before. But having played his part with Brendan Rodgers’ all-conquering Celtic set-up in 2016-17, he didn’t ever believe he could emulate his old Hoops boss and be an Invincible.
Now, 13 years after winning the PFA trophy during his time at Raith Rovers, McGlynn is on the shortlist again. Before Sunday’s glittering ceremony, the 62-year-old can copy Rodgers by completing an entire league season unbeaten.Tomorrow’s home game against Alloa stands between Falkirk and an Invincible league campaign.
For McGlynn, that would be a career high and carries special meaning, especially given his connection to the Celts boss. Having moved to Parkhead during Ronny Deila’s term, Rodgers’ appointment eight years ago saw him handed a job studying opposition with McGlynn picking up so much knowledge that he would later implement into his own work.He said: “I would never have imagined having that unbeaten run.
No chance. Having worked in this league with Raith, it’s very difficult and you usually always have ups and downs, but we’ve just had momentum.“It was a great time to work at Celtic and great when you never have a bad Monday morning.
