Coffee shop, gym and shops plan to transform Ayrshire town centre

Plans to transform a former job centre into a coffee shop, gym and offices could breathe new life into Kilwinning town centre.Elliot Properties Ltd, who own the 129 Main Street property, have unveiled their ambitious vision for the derelict building in a planning application lodged with North Ayrshire Council.They want to sub-divide the ground floor to include a coffee shop, three retail units and an indoor fitness/gym area.They say the proposed venture would bring create short-term construction jobs and 16 full-time positions once complete.Documents lodged with the local authority say the coffee shop will be fitted out to a high standard, selling coffees, teas, soft drinks, snacks.There will be indoor seating for 16 and outdoor pavement seating for around 30 customers.

The three retails units will all be accessed off Main Street.A supporting statement likens the gym facility - accessible by the rear car park area - to a mini-version of Irvine's Portal Leisure Centre.It reads: "The unit will provide full workout fitness programmes via one to one personal training and group training with a complete range of exercise equipment, step, cycling, running, rowing plus weights for full body workouts."The group exercise classes will consist of up to 20 individuals in classes such as zumba, pilates, aerobics, fitstep, circuit training, yoga, etc with approximately 40 classes per week.
