The day King Charles has waited for has finally arrived and he is returning to public duties after a period of treatment and recuperation following his cancer diagnosis. The progress comes as a major boost for the monarch, 75, who shared the news of his health battle on 6 February and was forced to put aside his immense work ethic and follow doctor’s orders.

Sources stressed that despite the announcement, the King still has cancer and will continue to be treated for the undisclosed form of the disease.

A Buckingham Palace representative said, “His Majesty’s medical team are very encouraged by the progress made so far and remain positive about the King’s continued recovery. “Forthcoming engagements will be adapted where necessary to minimise any risks to His Majesty’s continued recovery. The pacing of the King’s programme will be carefully calibrated as his recovery continues, in close consultation with his medical team.” Speaking exclusively to OK!, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said the King’s restoration to public life was hugely welcome news, but warned that it must be seen as a cautious return. “It is clear he wants to make the most of every moment as King,” she said. “This is a fairly low-key return.

I think a high-profile big national event might give the wrong impression. After all, he still has cancer and the treatment is not over yet.
