Care home consultation on closure of Dewar House in Hamilton and McClymont House in Lanark

An official consultation process is now underway on the proposed closure of two Lanarkshire care homes.Dewar House in Hamilton and McClymont House in Lanark could both close their doors under budget-saving plans being considered by South Lanarkshire integrated joint board (IJB) – and new admissions to both facilities have now been paused for the duration of the four-month review.Health officials have given a “cast-iron assurance” of their “continued commitment to the wellbeing of residents”, and say the plans are having to be considered due to “eye-watering cost pressures and a frankly brutal budget gap” as they address a shortfall of £37.8 million.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Now the 15 residents at Dewar House, 18 at McClymont House and their families – plus the combined workforce of 70 staff, as well as their trade unions – are being contacted to arrange consultations, to be overseen by an independent panel chaired by a community representative.
