Britney Spears has written about her controversial conservatorship in her upcoming memoir, including the fact that she tried to speak about it on a TV chat show in 2016 – but her comments never made it to air.

In her forthcoming book, The Woman in Me, Spears writes: “I even mentioned the Conservatorship on a talk show in 2016, but somehow that part of the interview didn’t make it to the air.

Huh. How interesting.” Now the UK’s Sun newspaper reports that the show in question was the British presenter Jonathan Ross’s chat show, where Spears appeared in 2016 to discuss her ninth album Glory.

The newspaper reports that members of the live audience heard Spears tell the host about her album: “I have this conservatorship for years and I felt like a lot of decisions were made for me, so I wanted this to be my baby and I’ve been really strategic about it.” According to the newspaper, frantic discussions ensued between Spears’ team and ITV executives, and they quote an insider saying: “Everyone was shocked – the conservatorship was always there but never spoken about. “The fact Britney raised it on one of the biggest shows in the UK set off alarm bells.” According to the newspaper, the broadcaster ultimately agreed not to air the comments.
