Blantyre Vics are ready for season kick-off, but I'll dip into under-20s, says boss
dailyrecord.co.ukBlantyre Vics boss John Gibson says he’ll dip into his under-20s again this season to bolster his first-team squad of 16, and says they’re ready for the West of Scotland League First Division kick-off.Gibson says he has at least one injury and “two or three” on holiday ahead of their opener at home to Thorniewood, with a trip to St Roch’s on Wednesday, but everybody else is up to speed.He said: “The first two or three weeks you’ve got seven or eight games, so you need a good squad and I’ll dip into my 20s again this season.“We’ll have a first-team squad of about 16, and the rest will be made up of 20s.“We have a few missing on Saturday through holidays and suspensions.“Jamie Bowman is injured, I have two suspended and three on holiday – these boys can’t afford not to take holidays from their work.“But we will be ready for it, we have enough players and we will get there.“The games are coming thick and fast and that’s when you need your squad, because that’s when you pick up injuries with games Saturday-Wednesday.”Gibson added: “Pre-season has gone well, we’ve done well in the games and the fitness is good, which is the main thing.”Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
