Brits receiving new passports from this week may notice something different as a major change is being made for the first time in over 70 years.
The first passports issued in the name of King Charles III and bearing the title “His Majesty” will start being rolled out this week.
For decades, official travel documents were supplied in the name of “Her Majesty” during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Now passports, which have recently changed to dark blue covers post-Brexit, will be issued under the title “His Majesty” for the first time since 1952, the end of the reign of the last male monarch, Charles’ grandfather King George VI.
It’s been described as a “new era in history” by Home Secretary Suella Braverman. She added: “For 70 years, Her Majesty has appeared on British passports and many of us will not remember a time when she did not feature.
