Ian Hislop, the sharp-witted editor of satirical magazine Private Eye, has given an update following an alarming incident where the rear window of his cab suddenly shattered.

Initially, there was a flurry of concern that the celebrated panellist of Have I Got News For You had been caught in a firearm incident after his London taxi appeared to be struck by what was thought to be a bullet.Thankfully, Met Police have since quashed such fears, stating they've found "no evidence of a firearms discharge at this time".The authorities are still piecing together what happened during the unnerving event on the morning of Tuesday 1 October in Soho.

Following the incident, Ian expressed gratitude and relief as he said: "The police investigating the incident in the taxi have now advised me that they have completed their forensic tests, have found no evidence of a firearm discharge and will be concentrating their investigations on indications that a mechanical fault caused the window to shatter." He added a heartfelt: "Thanks again to all concerned for their support and concern." Offering reassurance, an earlier statement from Ian noted: "They were initially looking into the possibility of a shot having been fired but have now indicated that there may be another more innocent explanation for what happened," reports the Mirror. The journalist and TV presenter hasn't held back in expressing his thanks to the diligent officers and "all who contacted me" over the scare which began with a driver's call at about 10.10am, claiming his vehicle had taken damage from a supposed shot while stuck in traffic on Dean Street in the centre of London.
