A popular pub has defended its decision to charge customers extra for leaving an "unbelievable" amount of food on their plates after a Sunday carvery.
The Star Inn at Vogue, near Redruth, Cornwall, enforced its policy for the first time when two individuals left what was described as "excessive" amounts of food.
A customer, who had paid £12 per head, was surprised to find an additional £2.40 charge per person upon settling the bill. The pub, which offers an all-you-can-eat carvery for £12 on the condition that patrons clear their plates before getting more, insists the rule is prominently displayed at the carvery station.
However, the customers were taken aback, claiming they had "never heard anything like that before". After being 'called out' on social media, the landlords of the pub received a wave of support and responded by saying the wasted food could have fed at least two more people, sharing images of the leftovers to prove their point.
