Escape to the Country viewers were left stunned earlier this week when a young couple revealed they had a staggering budget to spend on their first shared home.

Anna and Jack, who are engaged and share a dog, Dexter, appeared on the BBC show to find their first home together in Buckinghamshire, and admitted they had a hefty pot of £850,000 to put towards it.

Anna, a civil servant, and Jack, a consultant, who each own a flat in St Albans, were excited to buy their dream home, and were looking for somewhere with lots of outdoor space, four bedrooms, a utility room, and a big kitchen.

They also hoped to live near a local pub, which they see as the heart of the community. Show host Briony May helped the couple look for their first shared home in the countryside but as the show aired, it was their staggering budget which caused quite a stir online.
