Ayrshire Tesco stores are set to be impacted by a company-wide restructure. The supermarket giant has announced a major 'shake-up' which could put 2,100 jobs at risk across the UK.

The Big Four grocer will axe 1,750 team manager roles across hundreds of stores. The supermarket plans to create a new tier of lower-paid shift leader roles, with 1,800 roles set to be made available. As part of the move the chain will close down all hot delis and food counters.

It is understood that all hot delis and counters will be closed from February 26 and all affected staff will be offered different roles within the company.Tesco has mega-stores located in Ayr, Irvine and Kilmarnock with each of the chain's Extra stores operating an in-store bakery counter. The chain has smaller superstores in Kilmarnock, Galston and Saltcoats and Express convivences stores in Ayr, Prestwick and Kilwinning.

Union chiefs at Usdaw says the changes will be a devastating blow to staff amidst a cost of living crisis. Daniel Adams, Usdaw National Officer, said: “Tesco has informed us that they are looking to undertake restructures across the business."Clearly there is no good time to receive news like this, but it is especially difficult in the midst of a cost of living crisis and will be devastating for those who may be affected.
