Rishi Sunak has sparked fury after repeatedly refusing to answer whether HS2 will come to Manchester. Appearing on BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg today (October 1), the Prime Minister was repeatedly asked by the journalist to answer 'yes or no' following concerns the Birmingham to Manchester leg could be ditched.
But Mr Sunak, who will speak at the first day of the Conservative Party conference in Manchester today, said he would 'not comment on the speculation'.
He has repeatedly refused to commit to building the second phase of HS2 having reportedly become 'alarmed' over the size of the bill for the project.
On the programme, Ms Kuenssberg asked him: "We are sitting in Salford right next to Manchester, yes or no, will HS2, high-speed rail, come to this part of the world?"
