Greater Manchester supermarkets are bringing in increasing measures to deter shoplifters - but many shoppers are unhappy about it.
Sainsburys and Morrisons are among the retailers to introduce electronic gates which bar customers from leaving a store until they scan their receipts.
The move has been criticised by many customers, with threats by some shoppers to boycott the retailers. Sainsbury's said this was 'not a new measure', while Morrisons said the measures had recently been introduced to one store in south Manchester. But shoppers have reacted angrily to the measure on social media. Peter Burton said: "We have stopped shopping at Sainsbury's.
