Zoe Saldana's Character Gamora Was Almost Killed Off Of 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2'

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 could’ve looked a lot different, according to James Gunn. The writer-director revealed in a new interview that Zoe Saldana‘s Gamora was nearly killed off. Keep reading to find out more… During his interview with Variety, James revealed that he considered offing Gamora from the franchise because he knew how Zoe felt about playing one character for so long. “I knew from the beginning Zoe only wanted to play the character for so many years, and she’s been very honest saying that she’s done [after this],” he shared. “I was going to have her die.

I thought she was the one that was going to sacrifice herself…” However, James said that he was “talked out of it by Kevin [Feige] and Louis [D’Esposito] and then it just didn’t work that well.

It didn’t feel right. It felt much more right to go where we go in that movie. That seemed what was correct for the story.” In place of Gamora perishing, it was Michael Rooker‘s Yondu instead. James says that the switch made more sense for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole because of Infinity War.

If Gamora would have been killed off, there would have been an overhaul to the story that was in place. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.
