An axe-wielding killer murdered a man during a 'ferocious' attack after telling his victim he'd 'took everything' from him, a jury heard.

Kieran Oldham, 37, is on trial accused of the murder of 21-year-old Liam Richardson in Rochdale. He has pleaded guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility, but denies murder.

Oldham inflicted more than a dozen blows while armed with an axe, a court heard. In the hours after the killing, Oldham told two of his friends that he'd put a 'hex' on them. "Liam Richardson lost his life as the result of what the prosecution say was a ferocious attack at the hands of this defendant," prosecutor Jaime Hamilton KC told a jury at Manchester's Minshull Street Crown Court.
