The first season of X-Men ’97 ended this week on Disney+, but Marvel fans will have to be patient before they can start streaming Season 2.

A second season of the animated series has already been greenlit and executive producer Brad Winderbaum gave an update on production of the new season. “It’s still an animatic phase,” Wanderbaum told ComicBook in an interview. “Animation takes so long to make as I’m sure you know.

There was a great bit about this in Invincible Season 2. They just nailed it so hard, it is the greatest.” Wanderbaum explained that “it takes a long time” for an animated series to get made “Because the studio wants to see how successful the first season is before they greenlight the second season there’s a lag.” “We were lucky enough to get the greenlight before we aired so there’s maybe less of a lag,” he added. “People are just going to have to be patient with us.” Writer and producer Beau de Mayo, who exited X-Men ’97 weeks before the show premiered on Disney+ is not involved in the production of the second season.

However, De Mayo told a fan on social media that before exiting, he had written a lot of Season 2. “I did write a lot of season 2,” De Mayo shared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “However, unlike Season 1, I will not be heavily involved or leading production, cast records, design, editorial, post, music, etc., nor doing any production rewrites as it relates to the creative vision of the show.” By providing your information, you agree to our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy.
