A woman has died after entering the water at a city centre canal. Police were called to Ducie Street, near Piccadilly Station, at 1:45pm on Friday (December 8) after reports of a person in the water.

Around half-a-dozen uniformed police officers guarded the entrance to the car park for Navigation House — an apartment block with a Morrisons Daily store at its base — which overlooks the Ashton Canal portion of the Cheshire Ring waterway.

The force confirmed this morning that a woman has sadly died. They added her next of kin has been notified and enquiries are ongoing but her death is currently believed to be non-suspicious. READ MORE: 'My son has planned his own funeral...
